As much as I enjoy smiling with my teeth, I tend to feel insecure when it comes to the stains that were left from years of drinking coffee and tea. From a distance, it’s unnoticeable but up close, it’s embarrassing. Over the past few years, I’ve tried numerous teeth whitening products from toothpaste to whitening strips to even oil pulling. As efficient as some of these products were, they were not as effective. And I’m sure oil pulling would have done the trick but after trying it for a few days, I couldn’t get used to it.

How does teeth whitening work?
Teeth bleaching gel contains an ingredient that opens the pores in the tooth which allow the active bleaching agent to seep through pores in the enamel into the dentin of the tooth. The oxygen molecules from the bleaching agent contacts the discoloured molecules latched to the tooth causing them to break away exposing the natural colour of the tooth. How does the Smile Brilliant’s system work?

The entire process itself was quick and simple. From receiving the package, mailing out my dental impressions and then receiving the custom trays to start whitening. With easy to follow instructions, the process couldn’t be any simpler.

What to expect inside a Smile Brilliant package?

Every package includes:
2 Impression Trays – used in combination with impression material to create mold.
3 sets of Impression Material (Catalyst and Base Paste) – this will make your dental impressions – although you only need to use 2 sets, a third is added in case a mistake happens.
Postage – to send your dental impressions to the lab.
Professional Teeth Whitening and Desensitizing Gel and instruction guides on how to create your dental impressions and how to use the teeth whitening and desensitizing gel.

Once you completed and mailed your dental impressions, the Professional Lab Service at Smile Brilliant will receive your impressions and create an exact model of your teeth. They will then mail your custom-fitted trays to you so you can start whitening your teeth! The custom trays are meant to fit in your teeth perfectly and they are flexible enough that you won’t know you have the trays on.

What happens after the custom-fitted trays arrive?
Start whitening! Follow the instructions provided in your package.

To get started, I brush my teeth without toothpaste and made sure my teeth are relatively dried. I then took the Whitening Gel and applying a thin ribbon of it along the front outer surface of the trays, inserting the tray to fit on my teeth and leaving it on for 3 hours. The first few days I left it on for about 1 hour but once I got used to the process and experienced little to no sensitivity, I left it on for the full 3 hours.

Since the whitening process takes a maximum of 3 hours, I recommend starting the whitening process roughly 3.5 hours before bed. As did I; during the first 3 hours I took a shower, did my nightly skincare routine, and catch up on emails and shows.

Once time is up, I removed the trays and clean them with cool water and brushed my teeth with toothpaste. I then made sure my trays are dried and applied a thin ribbon of the Desensitizing Gel and insert the tray on my teeth for 15-20 minutes. After that, I removed and cleaned the tray and spit out any remaining gel that was left on my teeth.

As mentioned earlier, I like to do the entire whitening process at night. This is because after applying the Desensitizing Gel, you do not rinse your month and refrain from consumption of food and drinks for a minimum of 30 minutes so the gel can do its work.

After a few weeks of whitening my teeth, there has been a significant difference in terms of the colour of my teeth and I couldn’t be happier. See for yourself, they are truly whiter!
