Not only is it apple and pumpkin season, it’s also the start of BAKING season! These delicious treats are not just pretty to look at but they’re simple to make. They are a perfect go-to Thanksgiving treat, especially if you’re in a time crunch, or want the house to smell like baked goods without the effort!
Apple roses are probably one of the easiest recipes that will for sure impress your guests! A good friend of mine (Hey, E!) made these a few months ago and I was certain it took her a lot of practice, patience, and professionalism to make. She sent over the recipe and I definitely had a “duh!” moment – I have made paper roses in elementary school using a similar method. Turns out they are quick, easy and foolproof (and in my books, there is no one fixed recipe). Let’s get started!
What You’ll Need:
- Puff pastry (thawed)
- 1-2 Apples (of your choice)
- 3 Tbsp Lemon Water
- Egg Wash
- Throw in some, all, or add your own spices:
- Pumpkin Pie Spice
- Peach / Apricot Jam or Apple Sauce
- Optional: Confectioners sugar
- Flour (to flour work surface)
- Rolling Pin
- Silicone muffin cups or muffin tin sprayed with non-stick stray
In this recipe there are no exact measurements to the ingredients mainly because I believe it varies between everyone – make it suit towards your liking!
Slice your apples into quarters. Remove the core (either by using a melon scoop or slicing a “V”). Next, thinly slice the apples and sit them in a microwave-safe plate or bowl with lemon water. Microwave the apples for 30-45 seconds to soften the apples
On a floured work surface, take your thawed puff pastry and roll out the dough with a rolling pin (keeping it rectangular as possible). Then, use a knife or a pizza cutter and divide the dough into 4-6 strips
Preheat oven to 400F/205C
Next, it’s time to have some fun! Spread your spices and flavourings onto a strip*
*Remember it’s based on your preference, whatever makes sense, Feel free to add a little or a lot of whatever you like and have on hand.
Lay your apple slices as pictured below.
Fold up the bottom part of the strip (1)
Then take your egg wash and brush along the strip using a pastry brush or a spoon
Carefully roll (2) and seal the edge and place it into a silicone or paper muffin cup or tin. Repeat for the rest
Bake for 20 minutes, rotate your pan and bake for another 20-25 minutes (keep an eye on them!)
Optional: Sprinkle confectioners sugar for added decor
